This is Not a Bicycle.

A wise man once said that computers were like bicycles for the mind, and, for a while, this was true. For decades, computers helped to advance the capabilities of our race by enhancing productivity, efficiency, and creative abilities. But then social media came along, and took what were once tools that enhanced our abilities to money-making machines that hindered them. Silicon Valley was great when it was about selling you a product, not about selling you. But that’s what it is today. Computers aren’t bicycles, they don’t help us get anywhere, they’re ellipticals that generate money for Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey, like an episode of Black Mirror.

I don’t really have anything else to say here, it’s just… frustrating. It was supposed to be Apple’s job to make sure the computer was great, that’s why they had to beat IBM. But in letting Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube on its store, they’re complicit in the destruction of the computer.
